No Delay for the EU AI Act: The Timeline Stands Firm
The European Commission has confirmed: there will be no delay and no transition period for the AI Act. This means that the obligations will take effect step by step, exactly as planned.
-
Since 2 February 2025: the prohibitions (such as social scoring) and the requirement for AI literacy are already in force.
-
From 2 August 2025: the transparency and diligence obligations for general-purpose AI models (GPAI) will apply.
-
By 2 August 2026: the requirements for providers and users of high-risk AI systems will come into effect.
No “Grace Period”: Compliance Starts Now
For organizations, this means waiting is no longer an option. The EU has made it crystal clear: companies must now evaluate their AI systems against the AI Act. There will be no leniency and no grace period.
In practice, this requires a structured approach that includes:
-
Inventorying all AI applications within the organization
-
Classifying risks: determining whether a system falls under prohibited, GPAI, or high-risk categories
-
Developing internal policies: establishing clear AI governance and compliance frameworks
-
Training employees in AI literacy
